Senior Java Engineer

• Design and implement high-performance Java/Spring Boot microservices
• Build and maintain event-driven integrations using Apache Kafka
• Own the data layer, including schema design, query optimisation, migrations, and PostgreSQL
• Work in a containerised cloud-native environment using Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP
• Maintain code quality through code reviews, testing standards, and CI/CD discipline
• Mentor team members and promote quality and continuous improvement
• Own features end-to-end from requirements through production and beyond
• Work with business stakeholders to challenge assumptions and align on solutions
• Understand product business context, customer impact, and feature rationale
• Navigate a large organisation, build bridges across teams, and deliver outcomes
• Write technical documentation including System Design documents, RFCs, and ADRs
• Identify and address technical debt proactively
• Participate in architecture discussions with well-reasoned proposals

• 5+ years of commercial Java development
• Java 11/17+
• Spring Boot, Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate
• Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, event-driven patterns, and inter-service communication
• Deep JVM internals knowledge: memory model, GC tuning, concurrency, and performance profiling
• Apache Kafka: producers, consumers, consumer groups, offset management, and error handling
• PostgreSQL: relational modelling, indexing strategy, query plans, and schema migrations
• Docker and Kubernetes production usage
• Maven/Gradle, Git, JIRA, Confluence, code reviews, and CI/CD
• Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and write clear design documents
• English B2+ for team and stakeholder communication
• Proficiency in leveraging AI tools and large language models such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and apply them responsibly in professional workflows
• Nice-to-have: Kotlin development experience
• Nice-to-have: Domain-Driven Design, CQRS, Event Sourcing, gRPC, GraphQL, GCP services, MongoDB, high-throughput/low-latency systems, and e-commerce, logistics, or fintech experience
