Senior Backend Engineer – Mobility

• Build sophisticated event-driven microservices powering M-KOPA Mobility's clean, affordable transport business
• Own solutions end-to-end, from architecture decisions through production monitoring and decommissioning
• Develop C#/.NET backend systems
• Work with Azure cloud infrastructure and messaging technologies such as Service Bus
• Design and develop microservice architectures
• Use Kubernetes and Docker for containerisation and orchestration
• Implement observability and monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana
• Apply DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and continuous delivery practices
• Collaborate with and contribute to engineering teams across Africa, Europe, and the UK
• Support technology enabling financial inclusion and clean transport across Africa

• Strong grasp of C# .NET development
• Experience with event-driven systems – Service Bus or similar messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Microservices architecture experience
• Experience with Azure, or other major cloud providers such as AWS or GCP
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Testing and deployment expertise
• DevOps culture mindset
• Experience working with AI coding tools, ideally Claude Code or similar
• Comfortable working as part of a team which owns the entire software stack, including supporting infrastructure, throughout the entire software lifecycle
• Willingness to embrace continuous delivery, testing, and observability as first-order engineering concerns

• Initial 12-month Fixed Term Contract, with potential to extend or transition into a permanent role
