Accounting and Audit Manager

• Lead the organization-wide Accounting Department and maintain the integrity of accounting data
• Produce high-quality financial reports
• Manage day-to-day accounting for headquarters financial transactions
• Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures consistent with US GAAP
• Maintain and continuously improve the system of financial controls
• Oversee general accounting, investment accounting, subgranting, grantmaking, tax-exempt compliance, banking, payroll, and benefits
• Supervise accounting activities for Asylum Access Mexico, Asylum Access Malaysia, and Asylum Access Thailand
• Perform bank reconciliations, accrual accounting, prepayment accounting, and intercompany transaction accounting
• Ensure accurate and complete finance and accounting operations for internal and external reporting
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes
• Prepare journal entries and accounting corrections and reconcile the general ledger
• Develop and document business processes, accounting policies, and internal controls
• Oversee accounts, ledgers, reporting systems, chart of accounts, vendor lists, and accounting system reports
• Collaborate with department heads to identify accounting information and reporting needs
• Support cash flow projections and preparation of the cash flow statement
• Manage the annual US audit from start to finish and coordinate audit schedules and corrective actions
• Manage quarterly internal audits of subsidiaries and follow up on findings
• Assist with tax returns, including IRS 990, NY 500, California filings, and Form 941 reconciliation
• Oversee national-level external audits
• Implement auditor recommendations
• Assist in administering the accounting system
• Develop and implement continuous financial and accounting training for staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Report to the Director of Finance and Operations of Asylum Access

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA certification or equivalent
• Demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) for Nonprofits
• 5 years related accounting experience in private corporation/public charity settings
• Experience using a computerized accounting system, specifically Microsoft Dynamics
• Solid knowledge of MS Office applications, with Excel proficiency required
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Strong initiative and ability to take ownership of projects, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Cultural competence and intelligence; ability to work in a diverse, multicultural workforce
• Ability to work individually and collaboratively across organizational functions and levels and with external partners, adapting to and respecting other cultures and languages
• Strong time management and organizational skills

• Based in Mexico
