Staff Engineer

• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for AI adoption across Valsea's product, platform, and internal tooling
• Architect and lead delivery of AI-powered capabilities into the Scala/Go/Kafka backend
• Develop recommendation, personalisation, support, fraud, risk, agentic automation, and internal developer tooling capabilities
• Set the roadmap for agentic QA automation and AI-accelerated support and incident response
• Introduce AI tooling into GitHub/GitLab software development lifecycle pipelines, including code review, testing, and deployment gates
• Evaluate and integrate self-hosted and API-based LLM/ML infrastructure
• Establish standards for designing, testing, monitoring, and rolling back AI features
• Partner with Engineering leadership, Product, and Data to identify AI opportunities and create delivery plans
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and managers
• Run design reviews and raise the technical bar for AI-assisted and AI-driven systems
• Prototype quickly, work directly in the codebase, and resolve difficult integration and performance issues
• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Significant experience in the JVM/Scala ecosystem, or a comparably strong background in a statically typed, distributed-systems-heavy language
• Proven Staff/Principal-level scope, including setting technical direction
• Hands-on experience shipping AI/ML-powered features into production at real scale
• Experience with LLM integration, recommendation systems, applied ML, or agentic infrastructure
• Deep familiarity with event-driven, distributed architectures, including Akka/Pekko and Kafka or equivalent
• Strong hands-on experience with distributed systems and container orchestration, including Kubernetes and Docker
• Experience making build-vs-buy and platform decisions involving cost, latency, data privacy, and vendor risk for AI systems
• Product-minded approach focused on player impact and business outcomes
• Strong communication skills across technical and leadership audiences
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and help define the role's scope
• Professional-level English communication, written and verbal
• EU-based residence/work eligibility; Valsea cannot sponsor work visas outside the EU
