Senior Software Engineer – Java, Go, GCP, AWS

• Design, build, and own production-grade backend services replacing capabilities provided by third-party CMS platforms
• Lead the design and implementation of an authentication and identity service, including secure session and token management
• Define and implement APIs supporting the headless frontend and other digital products
• Design solutions using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC and distributed systems principles
• Plan and execute service migrations from vendor or legacy platforms with minimal disruption
• Build and operate cloud-native services across AWS and Google Cloud
• Ensure backend services meet reliability, scalability, performance, and observability requirements
• Implement and maintain logging, metrics, and distributed tracing for production services
• Collaborate with the Platform Engineering Manager and other engineering stakeholders on technical decisions and implementation strategy
• Mentor a mid-level engineer and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
• Leverage and help shape AI-assisted and agentic development workflows
• Continuously evaluate and improve backend architecture, service reliability, and development practices

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with senior-level ownership of production services
• Strong professional experience with Java and Go, including production experience with both
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Google Cloud, including managed services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Pub/Sub, Lambda, RDS, or equivalent technologies
• Strong understanding of API design and distributed systems, with experience using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC
• Strong experience with authentication and identity systems, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO, session management, and token management
• Experience migrating services or capabilities away from a third-party vendor, CMS, or legacy platform
• Strong understanding of production observability and reliability, including logging, metrics, and tracing
• Ability to design and deliver scalable, maintainable backend services with a high degree of autonomy
• Comfortable working in an AI-first engineering environment, using AI coding assistants and agentic development tools
• Fluent English communication skills
• Nice to have: experience with media, publishing, or CMS platforms
• Nice to have: experience with Brightspot or similar enterprise CMS platforms
• Nice to have: event-driven architectures using Kafka or Google Pub/Sub
• Nice to have: Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
• Nice to have: high-traffic or cache-heavy systems using CDNs or Redis
• Nice to have: AI/LLM-powered services or agentic workflows
