Senior Backend Engineer

• Develop backend features for AI-powered educator tools across architecture, implementation, deployment, and observability
• Own the full lifecycle of backend services and features
• Lead technical designs and architecture decision records for new and refactoring projects
• Ensure stable, secure, and fast time to customer value
• Integrate, experiment with, and improve AI-assisted development workflows
• Create and manage AI skills, loops, and context files
• Use agentic coding tools for refinement, planning, first drafts, and monitoring
• Ship features collaboratively with Flutter engineers, product managers, and designers
• Integrate 3D simulations and mini-apps with core app features such as progress, learning plans, and tests
• Integrate the SpiceDB backend permission system
• Develop a unified CMS for internally produced and customer-created content
• Enable education providers to connect through SCORM/LTI integrations
• Migrate the custom Firestore and trigger-based CMS to a modern API-first headless CMS

• 7+ years of backend development on production systems
• Experience owning services, debugging incidents at scale, mentoring engineers, and making architecture decisions
• Experience in product trios or similar setups where engineers shape the product
• Daily use of AI coding tools; ability to explain workflow, skills, context management, agent orchestration, and responsible use
• Strong experience with NoSQL, especially Firestore
• Strong experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL/Spanner
• Experience with schema migration and transformation tasks
• Understanding of API design, caching, and high-performance content delivery
• Clear, async-first communication and strong written documentation skills
• English as the working language
• Comfortable with asynchronous, event-driven systems such as Pub/Sub or webhooks
• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Experience with Claude, Terraform, and GCP, including Firestore and Spanner
