Senior Backend Engineer

• Improve backend systems, tooling, and practices used by other engineering teams
• Develop features where appropriate as part of the platform team
• Identify automation opportunities in engineering workflows and build solutions using AI agents where helpful
• Build and maintain shared services, libraries, and APIs
• Enable dependent teams through guidance, documentation, and code review
• Own security fixes and dependency updates across backend systems
• Triage vulnerabilities and safely plan and ship upgrades in an existing codebase
• Identify and diagnose performance bottlenecks and scalability limits
• Reason about concurrency, failure modes, and reliability across APIs and integrations
• Own services in production, including monitoring, debugging, performance, and reliability
• Investigate incidents to root cause and implement proper fixes
• Contribute to an AI-first engineering culture by sharing patterns and documenting effective practices
• Use AI tools to accelerate implementation while critically reviewing generated output

• 5+ years of professional backend development using Java
• Meaningful track record of shipping and operating production systems
• Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills
• Strong backend fundamentals, including API design, integrations, concurrency, failure modes, and service reliability
• Deep understanding of database behavior, data modeling, query design, indexing, and performance implications
• Proven ability to diagnose performance bottlenecks and debug complex production issues to root cause
• Comfortable working in an existing, evolving codebase and making safe incremental changes
• Hands-on, daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Augment, or equivalent
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code, including logic, security, and maintainability
• Clear technical communication and constructive disagreement
• Interest in Elixir or functional programming languages
• Experience building B2B SaaS products, preferably with complex multi-tenant data models or transactional workflows
• Experience on small, high-output teams
• Familiarity with frontend development and JavaScript/TypeScript; Angular or modern JavaScript frameworks are a plus
• Experience on a platform, internal tooling, or developer-enablement team, including security patching and dependency upgrades
• Background in the travel, hospitality, or experiences industry is a plus
