Senior Legal Counsel – Product, Privacy

• Identify and advise on legal issues involving privacy, data protection, intellectual property, marketing, online safety, AI regulation, platform, competition and consumer laws
• Advise product and engineering teams on product development, including agentic and generative AI products
• Advise on go-to-market strategy, partnership terms, consumer-facing terms and risk mitigation
• Build relationships with key stakeholders
• Contribute to company-wide AI policies, processes and legal frameworks
• Draft and maintain legal playbooks and internal guidance for AI tools and technologies
• Collaborate with privacy, IP, security, product and engineering teams
• Build scalable legal-review processes supporting new product launches
• Participate in review and coordination of privacy or data-security incidents, including on-call support, investigations, notifications and resolution efforts
• Monitor global AI and privacy regulations and relevant industry standards

• Legally qualified with an AUS/NZ, UK, EU or US practising certificate
• 10+ years practicing law
• Some in-house legal experience, preferably in a technology company
• Familiarity with global digital, AI, privacy, consumer and online safety laws and regulations, including the EU AI Act, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, Digital Services Act and Online Safety Acts
• Deep understanding of modern AI technology and products
• Comfort collaborating with team members across time zones
• Collaborative, pragmatic and business-minded approach
• Ability to simplify compliance without compromising standards
• Comfortable collaborating with engineers, product managers and marketers in fast-moving environments
• Risk-aware approach
• Creativity, curiosity and motivation by meaningful work
• AI Governance Professional or Certified Information Privacy Professional qualifications highly regarded
• Willingness to obtain CIPP certification within 6 months of joining is required
• Knowledge and understanding of Canva
• High comfort with technology and AI experimentation
• Hands-on experience advising rapidly growing technology companies on privacy and product-related regulatory requirements
