On-Call Maintenance Specialist, Data Science – Contract Role

About the role

• Analyze course performance metrics, including lesson ratings, pass rates, and qualitative feedback, to identify content requiring updates
• Review student feedback at scale to prioritize actionable improvements
• Update classroom instructions for current data tools, AWS and Azure cloud UI changes, and library behavior
• Debug and update code in Jupyter notebooks, VS Code workspaces, and SQL exercises using Python, SQL, and occasionally R
• Fix broken queries, incorrect visualizations, outdated screenshots, and mismatched expected outputs
• Update text, screenshots, diagrams, examples, tutorials, exercises, and projects to reflect current best practices
• Refresh content using modern data workflows, APIs, and libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, PySpark, and BI tools
• Improve project rubrics, starter code, and datasets for clarity and robustness
• Update Udacity Workspaces using the in-house Studio tool
• Install and validate updated Python and R packages in existing workspaces
• Update exercises and project starter code for newer programming environments and SQL dialects
• Test Cloud Labs used for data engineering and architecture content
• Verify cloud services, data warehouses, storage accounts, streaming services, and compute resources are enabled and configured
• Troubleshoot student access and permission issues in federated AWS and Azure accounts, including data access, IAM/RBAC, and resource usage
• Collaborate with Content Developers, Program Managers, Learning Architects, and Udacity team members to define scope, set priorities, and gather content information

• Strong understanding of data wrangling, exploratory data analysis, and basic statistics
• Ability to write and optimize SQL queries
• Ability to build and interpret data visualizations and dashboards
• Hands-on experience with Python for data, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, visualization libraries, and basic machine learning, and/or R for data analysis
• Familiarity with at least one BI or visualization tool, such as Power BI or Tableau
• Familiarity with foundational cloud data services on AWS or Azure, including storage, data warehouses, and basic compute
• Familiarity with Docker and Jupyter notebook-based workflows
• At least 2 years of professional experience in a data-related role
• Experience with Git/GitHub
• Ability to debug and update Python-based and SQL-based exercises and projects
• Strong troubleshooting skills for environment mismatches, package conflicts, SQL errors, and visualization failures
• Excellent written communication skills for documenting changes and providing step-by-step instructions
• Ability to write high-quality instructional artifacts and technical documentation modeled on industry standards
• Strong attention to detail with a student-first mindset
• Experience with statistics or machine learning in production environments is a plus
• Cloud or data-related certifications, such as AWS Data/Analytics or Azure Data Engineer, are a plus
