Staff Fullstack Engineer, Retail

• Provide technical direction across two engineering teams and connected domains
• Design scalable distributed solutions across frontend and backend
• Facilitate complex architectural decisions and make data-driven trade-offs involving performance, security, reliability, maintainability and cost
• Identify technical risks extending beyond an individual team
• Remain hands-on across frontend and backend using React and Java
• Shape customer-facing experiences and scalable backend capabilities from discovery and system design through implementation and production
• Help establish foundations for future native iOS and Android checkout experiences
• Drive adoption of architecture, performance, security, testing, observability and reliability practices
• Turn recurring technical challenges into reusable patterns, guidelines and platform capabilities
• Create alignment between Checkout, Payments, Orders, Shipping and dependent teams
• Mentor engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions
• Provide technical direction without relying on formal authority
• Partner with Product, UX and engineering leadership to identify opportunities and translate business needs into technical strategy
• Use data, metrics and industry trends to evaluate trade-offs and prioritize high-impact investments

• Deep, hands-on frontend engineering expertise with React and TypeScript
• Professional backend development experience in at least one language or framework, such as Node.js, Java, Python or similar
• Comfortable working across the stack and contributing to production backend services and APIs
• Experience operating at Staff/Principal level or demonstrated equivalent technical scope
• Experience designing complex systems and driving architectural decisions affecting multiple teams or domains
• Strong record of leading through influence and growing other engineers
• Ability to mentor experienced engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions
• Ability to introduce engineering standards and enable teams to make high-quality technical decisions independently
• Strong business and product judgment
• Ability to work effectively with Product, UX, Security, SRE and engineering stakeholders
• Ability to use metrics and evidence to guide decisions
• Experience with checkout, payments, orders, e-commerce or marketplace systems is a strong plus
• Exposure to native Android/Kotlin or iOS/Swift development is valuable
