Platform Engineering Manager

• Lead the Platform Development and Database Reliability Engineering teams
• Develop engineers, support team growth and encourage ownership
• Shape the technical roadmap with the Head of Platform Engineering and other Engineering Managers
• Guide architecture and technical decisions for secure, reliable, scalable systems
• Improve tools, processes and platforms used by Product and Engineering teams
• Oversee database engineering reliability, performance and scalability
• Improve monitoring, capacity planning, disaster recovery and platform performance
• Support quarterly planning, clear goals and Kanban/Jira ways of working
• Build relationships across Product, Engineering and the wider business
• Encourage automation and responsible use of AI
• Provide feedback and development conversations while creating a supportive team environment

• Proven experience leading and developing software engineering, platform engineering or infrastructure teams within a SaaS or technology environment
• Strong people leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring engineers
• Technical background in software architecture, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure and database technologies
• Experience contributing to technical strategy, architectural decisions and long-term platform engineering roadmaps
• Understanding of DevOps, automation, observability, security and reliability
• Experience with Agile delivery practices, particularly Kanban
• Experience using Jira to manage priorities and delivery
• Ability to balance technical improvement with business priorities
• Experience working across multiple engineering teams and with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Proactive approach to identifying risks, improving systems and driving continuous improvement
• Curiosity about emerging technologies, including responsible use of AI
• Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand
