Senior Proxmox Engineer

• Assess existing Proxmox VE environments, including cluster configuration, storage, networking, HA and backup, against good practice
• Document assessment findings
• Identify configuration gaps, single points of failure and operational risks
• Propose concrete remediation actions
• Verify sizing and capacity against actual and expected load
• Implement agreed corrections and improvements and confirm they work
• Validate backup and restore end to end
• Work with the OpenStack team to ensure the Proxmox layer supports the platform above it
• Produce documentation and runbooks
• Work alongside the client’s operational engineer to transfer knowledge through shared day-to-day work
• Report progress and findings directly to the client’s engineers and managers in the Netherlands
• Execute the assignment across assessment, stabilisation and knowledge-transfer phases

• 10+ years in IT infrastructure and virtualisation, including at least 2 years with Proxmox VE in production
• Strong hands-on experience with Proxmox VE in production, including cluster setup, configuration and upgrades
• Experience with the storage layer behind Proxmox and an understanding of its performance characteristics
• Linux system administration at an advanced level, particularly Debian-based distributions
• Networking in a virtualisation context, including bridges, bonds, VLANs and SDN
• Ability to troubleshoot across compute, storage and network together
• Capacity and performance analysis skills
• Production backup and restore experience, including verifying that restores work
• Scripting for automation using Bash, Python or Ansible
• Experience assessing an environment not built by the candidate and documenting actionable findings
• English at C1 level
• Ability to work independently from open-ended questions and determine what needs checking and in what order
• Ability to communicate findings clearly, including critical configuration or sizing issues
• Ability to prioritise critical issues over nice-to-have improvements and justify priorities
• Ability to transfer operational knowledge through practical work
• Ability to keep stakeholders informed and flag delays early
• Ability to build working relationships remotely
• OpenStack knowledge is an additional advantage
• Experience with VMware or KVM/libvirt and migrations between virtualisation platforms is an additional advantage
