Backend Engineer, Payments

• Design and build scalable backend services in Java
• Develop and maintain serverless APIs
• Build and consume REST and GraphQL APIs
• Take features from idea to production with product and frontend teammates
• Improve system performance, reliability and scalability
• Debug and resolve technical issues, addressing root causes
• Write automated tests and maintain testable code
• Review code and share knowledge with the team
• Build features helping restaurants fill tables and diners find deals
• Extend GraphQL and REST APIs
• Tune database queries and service performance
• Improve monitoring, testing and deployment of serverless services
• Simplify and modernise architecture

• 3-5 years of commercial experience as a Java developer
• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline
• Strong Java backend skills
• Strong grounding in software development principles
• Experience building serverless APIs
• Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL and Postgres
• Performance tuning and debugging experience
• Experience writing automated tests and testable code
• Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns
• Comfort working with Git
• Strong written and verbal communication
