Senior Unreal Engine Networking Engineer

• Design and build co-op networking for the game, from session flow to replication
• Work with the Principal C++ Engineer to keep the deterministic simulation synchronized between players without excessive bandwidth use or delays
• Profile and fix network performance, latency, and desynchronization issues
• Set up tooling for early and frequent multiplayer testing
• Document and train Engineers and Designers on the networking model
• Join a new game team as one of its first engineers
• Work closely with the Principal C++ Engineer and Engineering Team Lead
• For the permanent role, contribute as a generalist outside networking
• Build co-op multiplayer for the studio's next factory game in Unreal Engine 5, involving hundreds of thousands of machines

• Senior-level networking engineering experience
• At least 1 shipped title involving networking in Unreal Engine 4 or 5, using C++
• Hands-on experience with Unreal's replication system, including replication graph and dormancy
• Experience with RPCs and network relevancy
• Good judgment about what uses Unreal replication versus the deterministic simulation
• Experience with deterministic lockstep or input-based networking, or ability to explain an approach
• Experience with Steam networking or online subsystems may be beneficial
• Experience shipping co-op in a building, survival, or factory game may be beneficial
• Experience with the new UE replication system, Iris, may be beneficial
• For the permanent role, broad Unreal experience outside networking
• For permanent employment, ability to work directly inside Germany
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Availability for critical meetings and collaboration during approximately 11:00–15:00 CET core hours
