Database Application Engineer

• Design, modify, and optimize data models for production applications
• Create and manage complex relational tables in MS SQL Server and document structures in MongoDB
• Write, tune, and troubleshoot complex SQL Server queries, stored procedures, functions, and indexing strategies
• Support API integration by ensuring secure and efficient database reads and writes
• Plan and execute database schema changes safely within a live, mature application ecosystem
• Collaborate with backend and legacy frontend developers on data solutions supporting new features and existing integrations
• Bridge database infrastructure and application development teams
• Ensure data models are optimized, secure, scalable, and suitable for continuous delivery

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in database engineering, application data architecture, or backend development with a heavy emphasis on database layer design
• Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, query execution plans, and performance tuning
• Proven experience with document-based databases, specifically MongoDB
• Strong comprehension of web application architecture, API integrations, and backend/database interactions
• Demonstrated ability to work within mature, established codebases and conservative technology stacks
• Microsoft SQL Server certifications are highly regarded, including MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Development, DP-300, or legacy equivalents
• Understanding of older web frameworks such as early Angular and Backbone
• Experience in roles such as Database Developer, Backend Engineer (DB heavy), or Application DBA
• Experience with Azure Data Factory or Microsoft Fabric is a plus
• Experience supporting broader data pipelines is a plus
• Working knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or limited pipeline support is a plus
• Experience with JavaScript, Node.js, or Joi is a plus
• Ability to collaborate with teams aligned to Central Time (CT), USA
• Must overlap at least 4–5 hours daily with US-based stakeholders
