Accountant – Australia Public Practice

• Prepare financial statements and year-end accounts for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders.
• Prepare Australian income tax returns for individuals and business entities.
• Prepare and review Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
• Complete GST, PAYG and other routine Australian taxation and compliance requirements.
• Perform general ledger reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and account reviews.
• Review client bookkeeping records and identify discrepancies or adjustments required.
• Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for tax and financial reporting.
• Assist with tax planning and preparation of information required for client advisory work.
• Support payroll, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll requirements where required.
• Maintain accurate and complete client files and accounting records.
• Liaise with the Australian team regarding missing information, client queries and outstanding requirements.
• Assist with ATO correspondence and compliance matters as directed.
• Work across multiple client files while managing deadlines and priorities.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows and accuracy.
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive client and financial information.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, preferably within an Australian public practice/accounting firm.
• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation principles.
• Demonstrated experience preparing Australian financial statements and income tax returns.
• Practical experience with BAS, GST, PAYG and Australian tax compliance.
• Experience working with companies, trusts, partnerships and individual taxpayers.
• Strong Xero skills and confidence working with cloud-based accounting systems.
• Experience with Australian accounting practice software and ATO systems is highly regarded.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an Australian-based team.
