Software Engineer

• Develops software following Cisco Design Thinking Principles, with emphasis on simplification and user experience
• Uses secure coding practices and protects user privacy
• Partners with design, product management, and other teams to create customer solutions
• Creates technical design documentation and contributes to end-user documentation
• Debugs and addresses software issues during development and in production
• Brings ideas for product innovation and improves software development processes
• Contributes to solutions for straightforward business, product, service, and customer problems
• Collaborates on projects and develops small-to-medium features from technical design through completion
• Participates in technical design feature delivery with guidance
• Writes functional code and unit tests
• Performs coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting under supervision
• Assists with code reviews and addresses feedback
• Executes scale, reliability, and velocity tests
• Reviews code for secure coding compliance
• Monitors and triages incident reports, participates in postmortems, and may perform on-call duties
• Develops expertise in one component of the codebase
• Shares independently learned knowledge with the team
• Communicates assignment status, blockers, and delays
• Identifies ways to eliminate blockers and meet deadlines
• Collaborates with team members on knowledge sharing and problem resolution

• Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of related experience OR Master's degree plus 0 years of related experience
• Basic knowledge of theories, principles and concepts within a technical discipline
• Exposure to current technologies through coursework or internship
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle and agile engineering practices
• Knowledge of secure coding principles
• Ability to write clean functional code and unit tests
• Ability to perform coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting
• Ability to participate in code reviews
• Ability to execute tests for scale, reliability, and velocity
• Ability to monitor and triage incident reports
• Ability to estimate assignment completion times and communicate status, blockers, and delays
